House Rock Kitchen – Buena Vista

House Rock Kitchen

After my hike to the Harvard Lakes I was looking for some lunch! It was my first time in Buena Vista, Colorado so I did a bit of exploring and found that they have a very cool historic downtown area. The downtown has a series of restaurants and shops inside of the shells of old brick buildings that are perfect if you are looking for some Buena Vista dining. That is where I found the House Rock Kitchen. Anyone who follows this blog knows that I am all about the health food so I decided to give it a shot.

The House Rock Kitchen does health food with their own unique spin. House Rock has indoor and outdoor seating. You order when you first walk in like a fast casual restaurant but then they bring it out to your table. They have a full assortment of burgers, sandwiches and bowls.

The Food

Well it was a long drive and a long hike so I had to order an appetizer. I didn’t want to but it was mandated from my stomach. I went with the chips and guacamole. Ok this was enormous. I am pretty sure it could have fed about 4 people. Plus it wasn’t just all chips, it had plenty of guac to go around. The guac was good, more rich than spicy, but still really creamy and good.

Next up was the entrée. I decided to give one of their bowls a try. I know, I know, I have made it a habit for burgers after a hike but I figured I would show something for the rest of the folks out there. The bowl was big as well. Each bowls come with dressed house greens, super slaw and roasted pumpkin seeds. You can then choose a style of bowl for the rest. I got the southwestern bowl which also had brown rice, black beans, avocado, roasted green chilies, and pumpkin pesto aioli. Finally, its time to pick a protein and I chose house smoked brisket.

Ok now this was different than my usual but still a great post hike meal. The brisket was cooked really well. The meat was firm but soft and had a nice smoky flavor to it. The beans were also done really well and mixed perfectly with the rice. The greens were all very fresh as well.

It was a lot of food and filled me up quick. Not my typical meal, and one my doctor would probably prefer, but I really enjoyed it! If you find yourself in Buena Vista give House Rock a shot.

Help Me Help a Small Business

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
