Lemongrass Farms Natural Bug Spray
Nothing ruins a good time in the outdoors faster than a ton of bugs. At the same time, I always wonder about spraying traditional bug spray in the pristine natural settings. I would hate to have those chemicals stay around and hurt the environment. Lemongrass Farms Natural Bug Spray, Trek, may be the solution for both problems. It is natural, using essential oils, and it keeps bugs away. Here is my full review.

What I liked about the Lemongrass farms Natural Bug Spray
I think what I like about the Lemongrass Farms Natural Bug Spray is what most people will like, it’s all natural! No petroleum products that are harmful, just natural oils to keep the bugs away. Plus, I really liked how this spray made my skin feel. Here is a bit more of what I liked.
Active Ingredients
Trek bug spray actually has active ingredients that I can understand! Instead of long chemical sounding words they stick to just four active ingredients. Plus, they are all essential oils. Those are Geranium Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Peppermint Oil, and Cedarwood Oil. I really like being able to read and understand the ingredients that are part of something I am going to spray onto my body. That is the top thing that I like about this bug spray.
Inert Ingredients
Well that is just the active ingredients, surely there are more ingredients that might be bad. Well, no, not really. While there are a couple of inert ingredients they still are in the safer category. The inert ingredients consist of the following. Water, pretty good. Polyglycerol Oleate, which according to SpecialChem.com is an emulsifier that allows oil and water to stay combined. And finally, Glycerin, which occurs naturally in plants when they ferment sugars and can be made by hydrolysis.
That’s it. Just three inert ingredients to go along with the natural oils from several plants. Of the seven ingredients listed, I only didn’t know what two were and it only took me about a minute to look both of them up on google to see if they were something I wanted to put on my skin. The answer was yes.
Bug repellent
I will preface this by saying that I am a hiker and a blogger and not a scientist. i didn’t not put the Lemongrass Farms Trek Bug Spray through a litany of tests to determine scientifically how well it worked or didn’t work. Also, I couldn’t find any bugs other than mosquitoes that this product claims to repel. I don’t know if that is marketing or that is the only bug that it repels but either way, here are my anecdotal thoughts about how this bug spray worked.
Bugs seem to like me. I must be pretty tasty. I usually use one of the common bug sprays like Off! or Deep Woods and have decent luck. I found that there were no diminishing results when switching over to Trek while hiking. In fact it may have worked a little bit better at keeping the bugs away. I feel like sometimes on the traditional spray, if you miss a spot or two, the bugs will find it. With this Trek, because the smell is really strong, I think it might have the effect of keeping the bugs a bit further away on spots that I missed.
I didn’t notice bugs really flying around me when I was wearing the Trek. Out on hikes, even with repellent, I usually have those annoying little ones that buzz around your head and make a lot of noise even if they didn’t go in for a bite. I didn’t really notice those. It was like the bugs just wanted to keep their distance. Again, just anecdotal and my thoughts while wearing this spray out on the trail.
Moisturizing
I think my favorite feature of the Lemongrass Farms Trek Natural Bug Spray is how it feels on my skin. We have all had bug spray that feels sticky or tacky after applying. The Trek Bug Spray is made mostly from essential oils so it really moisturizes your skin as you apply it. I spray some on and then rub it in gently and there is no film and my skin feels smooth and not sticky.
Using this bug spray is almost like applying lotion to your skin with the added benefit of natural scents and keeping the bugs away. It feels like anything but a traditional bug spray. There is not even a hint of a chemical smell or feel and it really does leave your skin feeling great.
What I didn’t Like
The only thing that I didn’t really like about the Trek Natural Bug Spray was that it really smells like lemons. The scent is very strong and lasts a long time. So if you like the smell of fresh lemon, you probably will be ok. However, for me, it was a little strong and I would have liked something a little subtler. I don’t think that is possible because they are actually using the lemongrass oils and the scents are natural. So it definitely smells natural but it is just a little strong for my liking.

Wrap Up of the Lemongrass Farms Natural Bug Spray
Overall, I really liked the Lemongrass Farms Natural Bug Spray, Trek. I think it did a good job of keeping the bugs away from me and that is the most important thing for a bug spray! I really liked how there are simple ingredients that are easy to understand and that they are natural. That goes such a long way when you are out and about on trails in the woods.
I do think the smell is pretty intense with a very fragrant natural lemon scent. That got to be a bit much for me at times. I also wish I had a bit more information about what all bugs that this spray can repel, especially on if it works to repel ticks, or if it is just good against mosquitoes.
I did like the spray and I think that it is a great option for those who want to take a more natural approach to bug repellent.
