Sunset Grill, Moab
If you have been to Moab, you have probably seen the sign, or the big house on the hill calling you to visit the Sunset Grill. The restaurant has a really cool back story and some of the best views in town. To start, the Sunset Grill is the longest running restaurant in Moab, having started in 1993. But the story doesn’t start in 1993. The building is the converted home of Charlie Steen who found Uranium nearby and became one of the richest people in the southwest and Moab’s most famous millionaire before Moab was really a place that people knew of. The Food!
As cool as the story and the view are, it is time to get to the important part…The Food! The Sunset Grill has a nice menu of some higher end foods. Steaks, wild Ahi Tuna, Prime Rib, and Raspberry Duck are some of the highlights as well as other seafood, pasta, appetizers and a full range of deserts to go with a full bar. I was on the last night of my trip so thought I would splurge a bit and went with an Artichoke Baguette for an appetizer, house salad, and Prime Rib.
Appetizer
The appetizer was an Artichoke Baguette which are artichoke hearts blended with mozzarella and Romano cheeses, fresh garlic, shallots and oregano and then broiled on fresh baguettes. There was a lot of cheese but the artichoke flavor did come through nicely. There was a marinara sauce for dipping that had a sweetness that went really well with the savory cheese and bread. Very good way to start the meal.
Salad
The salad came out next and was really fresh and chilled which was great on a hot day in the summer. They served it with a very good Honey and Poppyseed dressing that was perfectly light to go along with the crisp veggies.
Entree
Now that I proved that I had a salad, on to the good stuff! The Prime Rib was served with mushrooms and marsala sauce. There was a generous amount of mushrooms and the sauce was a perfect combo for them. The Prime Rib was cooked really well and had a nice peppery seasoning to it. It also matched up really well with the sauce and was delicious.
The meal was also served with a loaded baked potato and asparagus. The potato had so many bacon bits that it was almost .hard to get down to the potato itself. It is like they asked me what my dream potato would be and it would be stuffed with bacon!
Overall, this was a very good and well done meal. The ambiance and the views were only matched by the quality of the food. I really enjoyed it and it was the perfect way to end my last night in Moab for this trip. If you are out that way, check out the Sunset Grill!
Finding the Sunset Grill in Moab
The Sunset Grill is located at 900 N Main Street. Up a long narrow driveway to get to the top of the hill. There is parking at the restaurant and they also have a shuttle service if you call. They are open Monday – Saturday starting at 5pm and closed on Sundays. You can make a reservation but they also accept walk-ins. If you are a part of six or more, they do request a reservation.
