Dueling D’s BBQ and Grill – Oak Creek

Dueling D’s BBQ and Grill

I haven’t spent too much time in northwest Colorado so when I was driving through the very cool downtown of Oak Creek, I decided to stop for some good food. I was immediately drawn to Dueling D’s. One for the barbecue but also because on the back patio was a huge graduation party. I figured if the local residents want to party there it must be the spot to go.

Dueling D’s was decorated really well on the inside and I immediately felt comfortable. I sat at the bar and order my food. Then was able to talk to a couple of folks who had been in the area for a bit. Including a wonderful woman whose family had homesteaded in the area. She told me the history of the area and even gave me an amazing shortcut that might be the nicest road in Colorado. That is why I love finding the local restaurants around where I hike. I get to meet amazing people and learn so much!

The Food

Meeting everyone is awesome but this is a food blog so it is time for the important part….the food! Dueling D’s owner, Dana, is a pitmaster trained in Austin, Texas and smokes meat every day. Along with the BBQ they also offer burgers and apps and homemade cobbler. I decided to go with the two meat combo with Sausage and Brisket and grabbed the Cole slaw and beans on the side.

Meats

The first thing I noticed was the Texas sized portions! They gave me a ton of food and I ended up having to pack some up and take it with me. That is not something the Fatman is used to having to do! The sausage was really good. It had a bit of a kick to it with some nice spices and a hint of garlic. It was really good. The brisket had a nice rich smokey flavor. The cut was lean with just enough fat to help with the flavor without making the meat seem small. The smokey flavor stayed with the meat even on the aftertaste and it was really delicious.

Sides and Sauces

The Cole Slaw tasted like a vinegar based dressing with some apples to add a sweetness which was nice. The beans were sweet in the sauce and had a large amount of pulled pork in them. Dueling also has their own sauces. I tried the sweet and sassy which was more sweet and didn’t have too much kick but perfectly complimented the richness of the brisket. Plus, the Carolina Mustard was some of the best I have had. Overall it was a great meal at Dueling D’s. If you find yourself in Oak Creek, Colorado make sure to give them a shot!

Help Me Help a Small Business

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
