Larkspur Pizzaria and Café

After my very cold hike at the Spruce Mountain Loop I was looking for some good comfort food. Luckily, I saw the sign for the Larkspur Pizzaria and Cafe on the way in and knew exactly where I was headed.

I pulled up just as they were opening up on a Sunday morning and was lucky to get a seat at the bar. I was an idiot and didn’t take any pictures on the inside but I can tell you the first thing I noticed was the fireplace in the dining room. It wasn’t lit for the day but it really made this place feel like home and I knew I was in the right place.

The Food

To the important part, the food! I started out with the Caesar salad. Now you know I don’t talk much about salads here but this one was really good. I am a firm believe that salad is just a dressing delivery system and this salad had plenty of dressing. No dry leaves! I really enjoyed it and finished it really quick.

Since I was still defrosting from the hike I decided to go with the homemade lasagna. The menu said it was “Mom’s” and it was made with five layers of meats, cheese and herbs topped with marinara. It also came with some garlic cheese bread.

To start, the sauce was really good. It had a bit of sweeter taste to it that I really liked. The lasagna itself had to weigh about a ton. The meat and cheeses melted together perfectly and was really delicious. This was a really good lasagna and was perfect after the cold hike. I used the bread to soak up the remaining sauce and it was a great lunch!

Fish Fry

I had a chance to talk with the owner a bit and he told me about their Friday Fish Fry. He is from Minnesota and has Walleye flown in from Red Lake Minnesota to a do the Fish Fry every Friday. They offer a dinner plate with mashed potato or wild rice and cole slaw or green beans. Or you can have it as a Po Boy sandwich.

He told me that people come from all over to enjoy the fresh Walleye! If you are around on a Friday that might be a great thing to try out!
