Platte River Saloon
After a challenging hike up Pennsylvania Mountain I decided to make my way into Fairplay and try my luck on some lunch. The main street area is a fun place with some historic buildings and a nod to South Park and that is where I found the Platte River Saloon.
What I like about the Fairplay area is how it has still kept a lot of the historical features despite having a higher tourism base these days. I am not exactly sure who Ellen is, but I love the old town feel to having her name etched above the door!

The Food
Now to the important part…the food! The Platte River Saloon had a menu with some appetizers, pizza and sandwiches. I decided to go with the BLT and a side salad.

What I love about salads from places that also serve pizza is that they usually have some great ingredients and that was the case here as well. Super fresh green peppers and mushrooms, along with tomato’s and cheese topped the lettuce. the salad came out nice and cold and it was really refreshing on a hot day.
Next up was the BLT. The Bacon was good and crisp but not so much that it shattered. It had a nice smoky flavor to it as well. They use a sundried tomato mayonnaise which had a really nice flavor but didn’t overwhelm the bacon. The grilled sourdough bread was also delicious.
All and all a really nice and light post hike meal. If you find yourself in Fairplay, give the Platte River Saloon a shot.
Finding the Platte River Saloon
The Platte River Saloon is located in historic downtown Fairplay on Front St. There is parking along the street and some external lots around if the street is full.
I have added this restaurant and all of the restaurants I have been to on my interactive map that you can find here. If you have a suggestion for a restaurant or any comments feel free to email me at fatmanlittletrails@gmail.com or you can follow me on any of the below social media platforms. Bon Appetit!
Help Me Help a Small Business
Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
