Boulder Falls isn’t the typical hike that I have on my list but it is a popular spot none the less. The falls are a quick third of a mile from the roadway on a very well defined path. Not much to it from a hiking perspective.
From an enjoyment perspective the falls are beautiful. Roughly 70 feet high the falls come cascading down the side of the cliff into a a creek below.
I hiked to the falls in mid-December and the water was beginning to freeze around the top of the falls and the creek below was also starting to freeze so I am thinking there isn’t much time left this season.
Like I said not too much to this one but it is a beautiful, short and very popular place to get outside in Colorado.
Here is a quick video of the entire “hike” to Boulder falls. If you enjoy the video make sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel. It is free and you will get notified when new content is available.
Boulder Falls is located about halfway between Boulder and Nederland on Boulder Canyon Drive.
The most challenging part of Boulder Falls is getting there. There is a small parking area located on the south side of Boulder Canyon Drive. That means that you will have to cross the very busy canyon road with cars coming down very fast so be careful. There are no restroom facilities at the falls.
Wrapping up Boulder Falls
I don’t know if this is much of a hike but it is a really nice place to see a waterfall in the mountains without having to put in a lot of effort. I have always seen it very crowded so I was excited to only have a couple of people around for my trip there. It was surprising to see the falls still flowing in December but it added to the beauty with a little ice around the top of the falls. Definitely worth a quick trip especially if you have visiting family or friends who might not be acclimated to hiking in Colorado but still want to see the beauty.
I have added this hike and all of my hikes to my interactive map page that you can find here. If you have a suggestion or comment you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or follow me on any of the below social media platforms. Happy Hiking!
