Dorothy’s Tamales – Fairplay

Dorothy’s Tamales

Every time I am driving on 285 through Fairplay on my way back to Denver I end up seeing Dorothy’s Tamales on the side of the road and keep meaning to stop. Usually because I get in the turn lane by mistake and have to pull a u-turn in the parking lot. Well, I finally stopped and it was a really good post hike meal.

The Food!

Now to the important part…the food! The meals don’t come with chips and salsa at Dorothy’s like some places but I decided to order some anyway. The salsa has huge chunks of tomatoes and peppers. It is almost more of a stew consistency. There was a little bit of nice spice to the salsa but not overpower and I really enjoyed it. It also came with plenty of tortilla chips.

The salsa side come from Dorothy's tamales come with a lot of corn chips around the side and a bowl with really chunky tomato's and peppers.
The Chips and Salsa from Dorothy’s Tamales

What to order at Dorothy’s Tamales? The tamale of course! I got the Pork plate and the pork was really good. It had a nice marinated in flavor and was so soft that it melted in the mouth. There was a lot of cheese that blended in nicely as well. I also really enjoyed the beans that came. A lot of food to refuel after a long day on the trails!

The Tamales from Dorothy's Tamales are big and come with a side of rice and beans.

So if you are like me and have been wondering about the Tamales at Dorothy’s every time you drive down 285 then why not give them a shot!

Help Me Help a Small Business

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
