Wayfinder
Located just a bit outside of Rocky Mountain National Park’s Beaver Meadows entrance in Estes Park is the Wayfinder restaurant. I have tried several times to stop into Wayfinder and have been unsuccessful due to it being too full and during a remodel. I finally made it in and I was excited to give it a try.
The Food
Now to the important part…the Food! Wayfinder had a very diverse lunch menu. Calamari, green chili, bison, and elk all grace the menu along with blackened salmon, country friend steak, and meatballs. There was an option for everyone. I wasn’t exactly sure so I asked my server and he told me that the Monte Cristo Sandwich was really good. I hadn’t had one in a long time so I thought I would give it a shot.

The Monte Cristo was way more than I expected in such a good way. The menu calls for thick sourdough bread, shaved turkey, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, lightly fried in savory custard and house preserves. Pretty standard. I wasn’t prepared for just how thick the slices of sourdough were. The thick bread was also covered in powdered sugar which gave it a nice sweetness that countered the savory sandwich. The turkey was shaved super thin which made it melt-in-the-mouth good.
The Swiss cheese, ham and turkey were very rich together and tasted really good. The jelly on the side for dipping added even more sweetness and was the perfect compliment. If you are looking for a perfect blend of sweet and salty look no further than this Monte Cristo.
I paired the sandwich with onion rings which had thick breading but still plenty of onion flavor that also helped to tame the sweetness of the sugar and jelly. My only problem was that I hiked in a black shirt that ended up being covered with powdered sugar! Apparently, you can’t take me anywhere.
Finding Wayfinder
The Wayfinder is located at 900 Moraine Ave Suite 301. It is in the same parking lot as the gas station and store. The parking lot and restaurant are on the south side of the lot. Wayfinder is open for breakfast lunch and dinner.
I have added this restaurant and all of the restaurants I have been to on my interactive map that you can find here. If you have a suggestion for a restaurant or any comments feel free to email me at fatmanlittletrails@gmail.com or you can follow me on any of the below social media platforms. Bon Appetit!
Help Me Help a Small Business
Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
