Hi-D-Ho Drive In – Alamogordo

Hi-D-Ho Drive In

On my journey to find the best locally owned restaurants near hiking trails I don’t have many rules. One rule is if it has “Diner”, “Café”, or “Grandma’s” in the name, I am going. I think I will have to add a new rule. If a restaurant is called the Hi-D-Ho Drive In it is 100% must stop in.

I saw the sign for the Hi-D-Ho on the side of the road in Alamogordo and new that it was a place that I had to try out. Nothing beats an old school drive in on the road and the Hi-D-Ho did not dissapoint.

While the Hi-D-Ho will let you order from the car and eat in the comfort of your vehicle, they also have a nice set of picnic style tables that you can sit and enjoy your meal.

The Food

Now to the important part…the Food!! The Hi-D-Ho like most good drive ins specializes in burgers with some hot dogs, shakes, and also so Mexican food specialties. I am a sucker for a good sign and the sign told me they were the home of the Tiger Burger so obviously had to try that.

The Tiger Burger is a double meat cheeseburger with mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The burger was big with a ton of meat! The meat had a really nice flavor and was juicy. The mustard really came through and became the dominant flavor. The onions and pickles provided a really nice crunch and the pickles went really well with mustard. The bun fell apart a bit but how could anything expect to hold all that meat! A really, really good burger!

The burger came with fries which were nice and fluffy and soft, it was a nice contrast to some of the hard fried options that are so common. I also ordered a chocolate shake which was great on a hot summer day in New Mexico. The shake was really thick and the straw was no match for it! Overall a great meal and experience. If you find yourself in Alamogordo, give the Hi-D-Ho Drive In a shot!

Finding the Hi-D-Ho Drive In

The Hi-D-Ho Drive in is located at 414 White Sands Blvd in Alamogordo, New Mexico. There is parking around either side of the building and you can order from the car or I sat at a table and people came and took my order and brought me the food.

I have added this restaurant and all of the restaurants I have been to on my interactive map that you can find here. If you have a suggestion for a restaurant or any comments feel free to email me at fatmanlittletrails@gmail.com or you can follow me on any of the below social media platforms. Bon Appetit!

Help Me Help a Small Business

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
