High Country BBQ – Buena Vista

High Country BBQ

On a recent visit to Buena Vista I was drawn to High Country BBQ as soon as I saw the building. What looked like an old time trading post on the corner was in fact, a Texas styled barbecue restaurant. Inside there were a few tables in the small dining room and what looked like a mother and son working the food. It was small and but the smell and flavors were big!

The Food!

Now to the important part…The Food! High Country has the standard assortment of BBQ greats and I decided to go with a brisket sandwich which came with a side. (I picked potato salad). The brisket had a really flavorful rub on and the meat was rich with smoked flavor and was nice and soft. While the slices of brisket were melt in your mouth soft, they still had a really nice texture that held shape. The sauce was had a subtle sweetness and a bit of a spicy kick at the end. It was more of tangy spice than a heat spice and I really liked.

The potato salad was rich and creamy. It also had a nice tangy flavor to it, like a vinegar base to the sauce but not overwhelming. There were also really big chunks of potato that were really good.

Overall it was an excellent lunch that was prepared quick and really hit the spot after a long day of adventuring. If you find yourself in Buena Vista, give High Country BBQ a shot!

Help Me Help a Small Business

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners.
