Women’s Classic All Season Base Layer Plus
There is no worse feeling as a bigger hiker to get motivated to make it to the trails and then not be able to find any clothes or gear that fits. Most outdoor gear is made for smaller bodies which makes it harder for plus-sizes to get out and enjoy the outdoors as much. Luckily some brands are recognizing that all sizes should be included in the outdoors and one of those brands is Smartwool. Smartwool has created the Women’s Classic All Season Base Layer Plus so that more body types can explore the outdoors in comfort and warmth! Since the Fatman is not a woman, I have asked my friend Celeste to help out and review this Base Layer.

Meet Celeste, Guest Reviewer
Since the Smartwool Women’s Classic All Season Base Layer is only available in, understandably, women’s, I needed to bring in a special guest reviewer and friend, Celeste. I would like to introduce you all to Celeste, AKA Fatgirlforthefitsoul on Instagram. Celeste is a super inspiring outdoors enthusiast who I met when we both worked on the same project for Osprey’s Extended Fit backpacks. We share the same passion of getting people outdoors who might not be expected to live an adventurous lifestyle. Celeste has logged a lot of miles on the trails from her base in Las Vegas and all over the country and I would consider her a hiking expert. You can read more about Celeste here.

What I liked about the Smartwool All Season Base Layer Plus (From Celeste)
Honestly, this is the first time that I can truly say I have fallen in love with a base layer. I definitely believe that Smartwool was right when they said that it will hug your body like a second skin.
Can we rave about how amazing it is to finally have access to plus size base layers that are true to size and comfortable without being skintight.
One nice thing about the Smartwool base layers is how soft the fabric is without feeling overly stretchy. The slim fit definitively contours to your body without feeling restricted as you move.
Living in Las Vegas we get high temperatures as well as low temps. The day I tested the Smartwool All Season Base Layer Plus, I woke up at 5 am and went to Red Rock Canyon where the temperature was 65 degrees. It was chilly and really windy. However, I felt like the base layers kept me warm at a comfortable temperature without feeling overly hot.
Since it was very windy I wore an outer layer vest to keep myself warm. The Smartwool All Season Base Layer Plus kept me dry by wicking moisture away from my skin.
Once I left Red Rock Canyon around 11 am the temperature went up to almost 90 degrees. However, 90 degrees and sunny in Vegas feels like 100 degrees. I went on with my day and surprisingly, I wasn’t hot wearing the base layers. The fabric is super breathable.
What I didn’t Like
I liked most things about the Smartwool All-Season Base Layer Plus but the Fatman will take my blogger card away if I don’t find something I didn’t like.
Personally, I wish the The Smartwool All Season Base Layer Plus came in more colors and patterns like the Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew Plus.
Wrap Up of the Smartwool All-Season Base Layer Plus
Thank you so much to Celeste for sharing her opinion’s of the Smartwool All-Season Base Layer Plus. I was so excited when I spoke with the reps from Smartwool about this new product. It is really the little things that make the outdoors more inclusive for so many people. We all want to be comfortable and safe with gear on the trail. It is nice that more companies are making that a reality. Smartwool has several lines that are body inclusive and it is great to see.
I didn’t try this product myself but have full faith in Celeste’s review. She seemed very happy and I trust in that! So I would say that I recommend the Smartwool All-Season Base Layer Plus!
