Southern Vittles
Lake City, Colorado is quaint, smaller town in western Colorado that is full of recreational wonders and recreational vehicles. Off roading and exploring old mining roads, or hiking to the top of popular 14,000 peaks make this town a haven for those seeking adventure. Behind every great adventurer is a hearty appetite and that is Southern Vittles comes in. Southern Vittles focuses on southern wonders, hospitality, and comfort foods to help fuel the next adventure!
The Food!
Now to the important part…The Food! Southern Vittles has basically anything a southern soul could ask for on their menu. Texas BBQ, homemade Gumbo, fried Catfish and Shrimp adorn the menu. Along with traditional Po Boy’s and the Chicken Fried Steak which they label as their house specialty. Of course, I had to try the house specialty and indulge in some Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Cole Slaw and Texas Toast.
First and foremost, the chicken fried steak came with a huge portion which always makes the Fatman happy! The steak was really good! The breading was thick but softer and crumbled off in places for a little bonus bite. I also really enjoyed the gravy which was really thick and flavorful. Honestly, I was really impressed. They used a really nice cut of steak and it was absolutely delicious!
I was also really impressed with the Mashed Potatoes. They had some garlic and chives mixed in. They were mashed smooth but still had a couple of chunks of potato in them. Really, really good! Overall, I was really impressed with all of the food and the wait staff had a great attitude even though the place was packed over a Labor Day weekend rush. If you find yourself down in Lake City, I definitely recommend giving Southern Vittles a shot!
Finding Southern Vittles
Southern Vittles is located at 200 Silver St. in Lake City, Colorado. This is just off of 149 and near the library in town. There is some parking out front that fills up pretty quick and then some other parking around town for a short walk.
