The Broken Oar
After a long day of hiking around Moab I was hot and ready for a great a meal. Luckily, walking distance away from hotel say The Broken Oar. The Broken Oar was really busy, serving larger family groups and singles alike. The place was absolutely packed but the waitstaff was great and the wait wasn’t very long and before long I was enjoying some delicious food.
The Food!
The Broken Oar had a very extensive menu that included appetizer, burgers and sandwiches, all the way up to steaks, seafood and pasta. Plus, pretty much everything in between. I decided to try some of my all time favorites. I started with the pickle fries as an appetizer. Then I had the Desolation burger, but added mushrooms, with a side salad.
The Pickle Fries
I love some fried pickles but I usually get them in the smaller chip version. The Broken Oar served them in thin spears that looked like fries. Their breading was thick and stuck to the pickles really well. The breading also tasted like it might have used some mustard as a binder but it was really good. These were really good and I enjoyed them a lot.

Side Salad
After the pickle fries, I wanted something lighter as my side so went with the side salad. The salad was pretty big and the veggies were all super fresh. Plus, The Broken Oar adds black olives which are one of my favorite things so they definitely get bonus points!

The Desolation Canyon Burger
The Desolation Burger is a half pound, char-broiled patty topped with avocado, bacon, swiss cheese, and chipotle mayo. I had them add mushrooms as well because you can’t have swiss with mushrooms, right!
The burger was really good and definitely tasted home made. In fact, it tasted like it came off of my own grill at home with that nice charcoal grill flavor. It was really juicy and flavorful and I really liked it. The bacon was good and came in thinner strips which made it easier to eat. The mushrooms were nice and thick and had a really nice flavor to them! Overall a really nice burger and the whole meal was really delicious. If you find yourself in Moab, make sure to the Broken Oar a shot!
