Rendezvous Grill
My first trip to Oregon was fast, only a weekend. I tried to pack as much in as I could. All that outdoor time built up a heck of an appetite and I found the Rendezvous Grill at the perfect time! Rendezvous has been a staple for over 30 years in the town of Welches. The original owners, Kathryn Bliss and Tom and Suzie Anderson, had just decided to retire and pass on the baton to Tim Healy and Alex Steinmetz and I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Tim while put my order in at the bar. He was great to talk to and I am sure the Rendezvous is in great hands.
The only problem with hiking all day was that along with the appetite, I worked myself into a bit of a lather. I decided to put in a to-go order but wish I was less sweaty so I could have eaten in. The Rendezvous was packed on a Saturday night and everyone looked and sounded like they were having a great time!
The Food!
Now to the important part…The Food! The Rendezvous has apps, sandwiches and salads. Then some main staples like, Surf and Turf, Steaks, Oyster Dinners and Wild Mushroom Ravioli. Then they have some amazing specials such as, Miso Glazed Black Cod and Citrus Tequila Shrimp. I got one of the specials, A bone-in Pork Chop with an apple chutney, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I took the to go box home and almost had to pull over and take a bite because it smelled so good!
First, the mixed veggies actually had Beets! It has been forever since I have had beets and they were great. The beets were a great addition to the squash, zucchini and carrots. The mashed potatoes were really flavorful and had chunks of potato which I really enjoy.
The pork chop was cooked well and had a really nice flavor. The star of the dish might have been the apple chutney though! The chutney was rich and delicious with the apples perfectly candied and just the right amount of sweetness. This covered the pork chop and gave a great sweet and savory combination. The combination was so good! Absolutely delicious!
If you find yourself in the Mt Hood area, definitely give the Rendezvous Grill a shot!
Finding the Rendezvous
The Rendezvous Grill is located at 67149 US-26 in a small strip center on the side of the road. The Summer hours are 3-8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. They are open 11am – 9pm on Friday – Sunday.
