5B’s Barbecue
I always love to hear about local businesses that have been able to make it work. That is the story behind 5B’s Barbecue. The Colorado Family owned business started as a catering business, then added a trailer to start serving lunch and dinners. Then, in 2022, they opened their current location on Tomichi Avenue. They are now celebrating their 20th year! Love to hear about a group who has spent years perfecting their craft like this!
The Food!
Now to the important part…the Food! 5B’s smokes their meat right in the shop. The menu offers meat by the pound, and barbecue handhelds but also some other options like burgers and fried chicken and all the sides you could want. I went with the 2 meat combo and picked my staples of brisket and sausage. The sausage was a burnt end jalapeno sausage which I really wanted to try. For sides I went with the Cole Slaw and baked beans.

The first thing I noticed with the brisket was the rich smoky flavor. The dry rub they used for the crust was really good as well. The sausage had a little kick to it from those jalapeno’s and had a really rich flavor from the burnt ends. I enjoyed the sausage a lot. The coleslaw was more of a vinegar base and was more tangy than sweet and the beans were good but a little soft for my liking. I really liked the sauce as well. It was sweet with a little trailing spice.
Overall it was a really nice family owned and local meal at 5B’s Barbecue in Gunnison. If you find yourself in the area, make sure to check them out!
