Luigi’s Italian Sandwiches
Luigi’s Italian Sandwiches is located in an unassuming building on 540 in Coos Bay, Oregon. Inside, the shop has about a dozen tables and some of the nicest people working there. I had a great conversation with who I believe was the owner and she told me about all sorts of great things to do around the area and was just as welcoming as could be. After a long day of traveling and hiking, it was the perfect way to refuel and re-connect with people again!
The Food
Now for the important part, The Food! As you may have guessed by their name, Luigi’s has a large assortment of Italian Sandwiches to offer. They also had some pizza bread and spaghetti options, and some of the best Italian Soda’s I have had. I decided to go with a grinder but not just any grinder, The Garbage Grinder! The Garbage Grinder was a house favorite and came with salami, ham, pepperoni, tomatoes, pickles, onions, peppers, oil and vinegar and mayo. This was a big sandwich and full of flavor.
The first thing I noticed was that there was a lot of meat on the sandwich. It was a little hard to tell with such a generous amount of veggies, but the meat was plentiful. This wasn’t one of those chain restaurants that just throws on a pickle slice and calls it a day. With as much as was on the sandwich I was impressed in how well all the flavors blended together. Nothing was overwhelming or underwhelming. It was all just the prefect mix of meat and veggies on really good toasted bread. I thought I would only be able to finish half but I crushed the whole thing!

I was really impressed with Luigi’s and felt some comfortable and welcome there. (This is not always the case on my travels.) The Garbage Grinder was a great way to cap off my first trip to Coos Bay and satisfied that hunger that only a full day of airports, planes and hiking trails can create. If you find yourself in the area, make sure to give Luigi’s Italian Sandwiches a shot!
