Wagon Wheel Bar
If you are looking for food around the Badlands National Park, there are a few options but not as many as some areas. Depending on what entrance you came in, you may have some choices. If you come in through the small town of Interior, one of those great options is the Wagon Wheel Bar.
The Wagon Wheel felt like the local spot in Interior. While there were only a few people in the bar when I stopped in, they all seemed to know each other. I had a great conversation with the bartender and learned a lot about the town. Plus, the prices can’t be beat!
The Food!
The Wagon Wheel has a full bar service but are also known for their food. The menu is mostly bar fare with burgers, chicken strips and pizza. They also have some local favorites like bison burgers, gizzards and ribeye sandwiches. And if you are lucky, the bartender will tell you about the secret menu items like…
Empanadas
While I was looking over the menu, the bartender told me that they also had some Empanadas that she made. I couldn’t turn that down and I was really impressed! They came with three dipping sauces, and the pork was overflowing from the little pockets of fried goodness. These were a great way to start my meal after a long day of hiking in the Badlands sun.
Burgers
I followed that up with a cheese burger and fries. The burger wasn’t huge but it was cooked really well. It honestly reminded me of cookouts growing up and that amazing burger that just came off the grill after a long day of being outside. It definitely hit the spot! Plus the cheeseburger was only $8.50! The fries were crispy on the outside and softer on the inside and really good. Honestly it was a great meal after spending all day at the park.
If you are at the Badlands and are looking for a nice local place to visit, check out the Wagon Wheel bar. Quick warning for parents, there was a poster of a topless woman behind the bar that may not be appropriate for the kids.
Finding the Wagon Wheel
The Wagon Wheel Bar is located at 115 Main St in Interior, South Dakota. There were a few parking spots outside and it looked like some street parking is available.
