Two Cows Creamery and Bistro
I love it on my travels when I get a restaurant recommendation from a local for another amazing local spot. That is exactly what happened while visiting the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The folks there told me I needed to try Two Cows Creamery and Bistro and I am sure glad they did because it was amazing. Two Cows focuses on Farm to Fork food and really great sweet “Cow to Cone” ice cream treats. Two Cows also stays away from GMO’s and artificial colors or flavors in the ice cream so you know what you are getting, really is right from udder and udderly delicious.

The Food!
I already mentioned the Farm to Fork philosophy but that doesn’t mean that the menu is limited. Two Cows has soup and salad, several sandwich options, burger, pulled pork, a hot dog option and even Yak Chili. For me, I went with the Burger and Fries combo. Which also came with a scoop of ice cream for those of us dining in. That is an offer that is hard to beat!
Burger and Fries
I went with the Bison burger which came from Evergreen ranch. The burger was rich and tender and very juicy. I always get worried with Bison, as I feel like it dries out easy but this was cooked perfectly! This was a very good burger but what really put it over the top was the homemade pickles that topped the burger. If you like pickles, you will love these and they were the prefect match to the bison.
I did splurge a bit and upgrade my fries to the garlic parmesan fries. The sauce was really rich and had a deep garlic taste which was delicious. I will say that I could have gone with a little less of the coating as it did make the fries a little soggier than I like. But I still finished them up because the sauce was so good! Don’t worry, I saved room for that scoop of ice cream too.

Free Scoop!
Two Cows offers sundaes, shakes and other sweet treats to go along with a large assortment of ice cream flavors. I believe the flavors may rotate because I don’t remember over 50 options but there was a nice assortment for the free scoop. After studying my options, I decided on the salted caramel.
This was a very good scoop of ice cream. In a world where more and more brands can’t even call themselves ice cream anymore, it was so good to taste the real thing again. The scoop was bigger than I was expecting for a add-on. It was so rich and creamy. The salted caramel really came through well too despite not having big chunks. If I wasn’t driving six hours home right after my visit, I probably would have snuck out with a few pints just to try even more!

It is so great to find these locally owned gems to visit. It is even better when they come recommended by another local and the absolute best when they live up to that recommendation. Two Cows Creamery and Bistro definitely lived up if not exceeded the reco. If you find yourself in Hot Springs, SD, make sure to give them a shot!
