Castlewood Canyon State Park
I have to be honest I didn’t have a lot of hope when I pulled into the parking lot of Castlewood Canyon State Park. It looked like it was a flat prairie and had paved walkways leading out of the parking area. Boy was a surprised when it opened up to beautiful canyon views of woods, boulders, a stream.
Going further along the path and there is a ruin of an old dam that is very cool. (I know my brother wouldn’t let me live it down so, yes, I said “where do I get some damn dam bait” when I got to the top of the dam) While there are some easy paved hiking areas there are also a lot of times that you will need to step around and over rocks so if you aren’t very confident this might not be the best place to start. It was also super muddy when I went which made it a bit slick so I would recommend hiking poles if you have them.
If you have a suggestion for a hike that you would like me to try, feel free to email me at fatmanlittletrails@gmail.com or you can follow me on the below social media platforms. I have also added this hike and all the hikes to the interactive map that you can find here.
