Joe’s Famous Deli – Vail

After the Booth Lake hike I was starving and looking for a good place to go. Last time I was near Vail I went to the Lionshead village but this time I decided to try the Vail village and found a little gem in Joe’s Famous Deli.

Joe’s is a basement shop that is known for their homemade ice-cream and really reminded me of a small New York deli. It had a lunch counter and a little section where you could buy some pastries and snacks.

The inside of Joe's Deli resembles a New York style deli with a counter and grill and some sundries available to purchase as well

The menu showed selections for breakfast and cold and grilled deli sandwiches. Keeping to my tradition I went with Joe’s Famous Philly. The sandwich came wrapped in paper and had a pickle included.

The sandwich came with with roast beef, American cheese, sautéed mushroom, onions and peppers on grilled focaccia bread. It wasn’t what I would consider a traditional Philly which are served usually on big bread. This was all grilled down almost like a flat bread sandwich.

I really enjoyed this. The bread is unbelievable and tasted like there was some cheese and butter possibly baked into it. I’m not sure what it was but it was great. The compact sandwich forced the flavors of the meat, onions and peppers to all blend together with each bite.

I also liked that this sandwich didn’t fall apart with all of the peppers and onions spilling all over the plate. Each bite had everything that should be there. I really enjoyed it.

You can’t go to a famous deli known for homemade ice cream without trying a cone. I like ice cream but don’t think I have had a waffle cone in about 20 years so already was feeling nostalgic.

I got the smores ice cream and it was just amazingly good. There were little pieces of graham cracker and marshmallow in the ice cream and it was just a really enjoyable. Almost like sitting at a frozen campfire! I highly recommend getting at least a scoop if you make it to Joe’s.

If you find yourself in Vail and are looking for some nice food and dessert you can’t go wrong with Joe’s Famous deli!

I have added Joe’s and all of the restaurants I have tried on my interactive map that you can find here. If you have suggestions for a restaurant for me to try or any other comments feel free to email me at fatmanlittletrails@gmail.com or you can connect on any of the below social media platforms.

Unlike some other bloggers, I never ask for discounted or free meals on my site. I think it is important, especially now, to support our local restaurants and small business owners. It does get expensive though and I am just a small business myself so if you are willing to help me out by making a donation below I would greatly appreciate it and be able to continue to bring you the content you love!
